Teamwork in action: Fundraising with our 24-hour relay challenge
It’s difficult to imagine living in a country where healthcare is impacted by violence or is nonexistent, where disasters, conflict, disease outbreaks and other emergencies threaten people who are already vulnerable.
Flex Community is a group of count-me-in joiners who come together once a year to run a 24-hour relay in support of organizations doing amazing work. We’ve partnered with Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) twice, in 2022 and 2024, because we wanted to raise awareness and much-needed funds for different crises around the world.
Organizing a third-party fundraiser can have a ripple effect. By being personally involved, a few dozen participants can leverage their network and raise awareness and donations from hundreds of supporters. Over the course of the two events we’ve hosted, our relay participants have managed to raise over $50,900 for MSF’s medical humanitarian work.
It’s easy to feel overwhelmed, even detached, from the seemingly endless humanitarian crises unfolding around the world. Hosting an event for MSF, even something goofy like a 24-hour relay, allows people to roll-up their sleeves and get involved, helping make the world a more compassionate place.
For those who are looking to fundraise for MSF, remember: fundraising is a team sport. Coming together with friends and neighbours to support an organization doing important work is energizing. It’s fun. It allows you to be part of something – part of a community of people who care.
